Importance of Prayer

The 9th month of the Islamic calendar is Ramadan which is observed by all Muslims globally. Muslims are required to fast to honor the first revelation of holy Quran by the angel Gabriel to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). It is a month of worship, humility, charity, self-reflection, spirituality and focus on personal growth. Ramadan teaches Muslims how to exercise self-discipline and self-possession and also strengthens our faith and devotion to or fellow man.
There are three types of prayer related to Ramadan which Muslims offer during the whole month to express their faith and devotion to Allah. They are:

1. Obligatory Five Daily Prayers

The first type of prayers that Muslims observe with throughout the month of Ramadan is the obligatory prayers. Offering prayers five times a day is compulsory for a Muslim, however there are extra prayers that can be offered as well.

2. Ramadan Taraweeh

During the month of Ramadan Muslims also offer the Taraweeh Prayer. It is not required but an extra prayer which Muslims offer specifically in this month to get close to Allah and find deeper meaning in life. The wise Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said regarding the Taraweeh that:

“Whoever prays during the nights of Ramadan (Taraweeh) with a firm belief and hoping for reward, all of his previous sins would be forgiven.”
